Our family of 3 became a family of 4 when our youngest son, Breyden, was born on Friday, November 4th, 2011. For the first few days at the hospital, Breyden was a happy and a seemingly healthy baby boy. Once we got him home worry began to creep into our minds.

Brody was born happy and healthy in February 2008.  For the first week, he was great- a great eater, great sleeper and a very happy baby.  Then, when he was seven days old, we got a call from his pediatrician telling us to bring him in to the Emergency Room- that he had failed a newborn screening test.

At Ava’s 20-week ultrasound, a suspicious “mass” was discovered by her OB-GYN during a routine appointment. After many visits with maternal-fetal medicine, doctors were split between diagnosing her with a tumor or spina bifida.

Avery was born on August 15th, 2009.  Everything was great for Avery at the hospital, albeit borderline jaundice, she was sent home on schedule with a clean bill of health.

Happy boy

Jonah’s Story June 2008 was a busy month for us. My husband graduated with his MPA and began his career-changing job search, we put our house on the market and Jonah was born. To say our life was busy is an understatement. The day I returned from the hospital, our pediatrician called.

Paige’s Story My husband and I have 2 children, Paige 11 and Seth 4. Paige was diagnosed as a classic galactosemic at 7 days. Her drama started before she left the hospital. She simply wouldn’t drink from a bottle, she would gag everytime the bottle was put in her mouth so she had a feeding tube inserted.

Shyla’s Story Shyla was born on June 30, 2008.  Aside from being two weeks early, it was a normal pregnancy and birth.  She had a slight case of jaundice when we were sent home, but was told this was pretty normal and that she would be reassessed at her two day check up.
